‘Lanercost’ is situated in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside next to Lanercost Priory and within 400 metres of Hadrian's Wall; a perfect setting for a place to relax, eat and stay a while. We’re a family business that opened in spring 2009 as a result of our passion for Cumbria and local history.

Steeped in history themselves, the converted outbuildings to the original Abbey Farm next to the Priory now house a beautiful new development which includes a Tea Rooms and Restaurant, Farm Shop and Gift Shop, Function room and studio apartments.

When you visit ‘Lanercost’ you will be greeted with the very best homemade cakes and tea for a quintessentially English afternoon experience. We don’t just stop there though. Our menu of delicious lunches also has quite a reputation, all made fresh to order with the very best local Cumbrian produce.

 If you need a place to stay for a few days or overnight, our accommodation is the perfect way to relax and unwind for a well deserved break from a walk or weekend drive. Our location makes for an ideal base to explore the history and rural landscape of the Border region, with Roman medieval ruins, artefacts and stories in every direction. Visit the English Heritage sites of Lanercost Priory (100 metres), the World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall (400 metres), Birdoswald Roman Fort (4 miles) and Naworth Castle (1 mile - private visits arranged by appointment only). Take a circular walk along the river or up to Hadrian's Wall and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

 

What’s more, you can combine a little shopping to compliment your enjoyment to take home local, Cumbrian produce from our well stocked farm shop. Or visit our gift shop to indulge in some retail therapy.
